Free Web Builder From Google

Some of my colleagues have blogs for each of their classes. They are a convenient place for students to access homework, participate in discussions, share information and work on group projects. Blogs are sometimes better than a school website since the teacher has complete control over the information without having to deal with php, html, or css. Blogs are also easy to update.

Google sites almost seems like it was designed for teachers.  Like the medium of the blog, Google sites is a simple and quick way to build a quality site in which teachers or businesses or families can control the content.

Look at how Mrs. Richau uses Google sites for her class, particularly for announcements.  She also incorporates Google’s calendar so that students know what to expect for a given week, month, year.

A blog for your class is a great idea.  Google sites, however, is more thorough and comprehensive.  It can do much more than a blog.  So if you are looking to expand your classroom give it a try–it’s free after all!
