Mathematics is a difficult subject to make engaging for students. Incorporating technology can also be challenging, believe me, I tried teaching Math for two years.
Math Live offers a lot of valuable activities, these are the two I found most useful:
1. Lessons: These are really well done animations of a variety of topics: Numbers, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space, and Statistics and Probability. Each lesson also comes with a worksheet (PDF) that students can use.
2. Glossary: These activities work well with a SMART board if you have one. Again, the range of topics here is huge.
Any Math teachers find Math Live useful? I’d like to hear from you.

Why I didn’t hear of this site before I have no idea. The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is a great site for mainly math but many of the manipulatives are just good thinking/problem solving for all classes.
They have activities for Pre-K to 12. Subjects include number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis/probability.

Looking to spice up your Math class? Want to integrate an interactive whiteboard? Try multiplication.com. There are a variety of games, teaching tools, and resources that you can try for your classroom to stimulate learning.
A game that comes highly recommended is Granny Prix and Fish Shop.
This resource was submitted to us via our submission form on the TIC Recommends page. Muliplicaton.com will also be listed as a resource website on the TIC Recommends page.

Students struggle with numberlines and number sequencing. Here are two free sites that can help. Great for interactive whiteboards as well.
- Oxford University Press has an online numberline that can help. It’s free and easy to use. Mathematics is not a strength of mine, but I do know that students struggle with negative just as much as postitive place values. The only “bad” about this numberline is it does not include negative numbers. Anyways, take a look at it; it’s a good way to integrate technology into a math class.
- Numberlines is a site that can help with number sequencing and investigating patters. Click in “IDEAS” once you are on the site for some ideas and information on how you might integrate it into your classroom.

No, not Gizmo from the Gremlins. ExploreLearning offers educational virtual manipulatives, which they call Gizmos.
Gizmos are online simulations for Math and Science for grades 3 through 12. They go beyond the basic simulation and offer the user an opportunity to inquire and interact with the manipulatives.
What I have found helpful is that many of the Gizmos my students use are of activities and topics that they would otherwise be unable to do in class because of space, time, and resource limitations. I believe that having the students complete the activity with their hands has many benefits, but these Gizmos offer so much in terms of interaction, manipulation and technology integration that even hands-on activities don’t. Also, the amount of engagement that students exhibit is motivation enough to include them into any Math or Science curriculum.
The amount of time it took to setup my account with ExploreLearning was minimal, and once your account is created it’s easy to navigate around the site. You can create classes and apply which Gizmo activity you want for each class to complete. They offer a free 30-day trial to educators.
There is more information and a video at ExploreLearning.
